Q1. (a) Rahul is purchasing a new computer for his home. Help him with devices name and description of various hardware components. 

Ans- The Major Hardware Components Of A Computer System are:-

• The Motherboard.
• Central Processing Unit (CPU).
• Monitor/Display Screen.
• The Keyboard.
• The Mouse – Pointing Device.
• Random Access Memory (RAM).
• Read-only memory (ROM).
• Printers and plotters.

Q2. (b) Software plays a major role in Computer System. Explain the different types of Softwares.

Ans- The different types of software are:- 

• System Software – The programs directly related to the computer hardware and perform tasks associated with controlling and utilizing computer hardware. 
• Application Software – An application is a job or task a user wants to accomplish through a computer. Application software are programs that help a user perform a specific job.

Q3. (b) Write the steps to protect the worksheet.

Ans- (i) Open the worksheet you wish to protect then, Right-click on the worksheet or Go to Review -> Protect Sheet. The option lies in the 'Changes' group then, click on 'Protect Sheet' from the list of options displayed.

(ii) It will prompt you to enter a password.

(iii) Enter the password of your choice.

(iv) The section below displays a list of options that you can allow the users of the worksheet to perform. Every action has a checkbox. Check those actions you wish to allow the users of the worksheet to perform.

(v) By default, if no action is checked, the users will only be able to VIEW the file and not perform any updates. Click on OK.

(vi) Re-enter the password as prompted on the second screen then, Click on OK.

Q4. (a) Write the steps to add the clip art in excel worksheet.

Ans – The steps to add the clip art in excel worksheet are:

(i) Open Microsoft Excel.

(ii) Open an existing document or start a new one. (iii) Click any cell to select it.

(iii) Click any cell to select it.

(iv) At the top of the program window, click the Insert tab.

(v) On the Insert tab. Click the Illustrations option.

(vi) Select the image type you want to insert: Pictures, Online Pictures, Shapes, Icons, 3D Models, SmartArt, or Screenshot.

(vii) Find and select the image on your computer you want to insert, then click the Insert button.

(viii) Once the image is inserted, you can move the image anywhere in the spreadsheet. You can also resize the image by moving your mouse pointer to the corner of the image, then click and drag to the desired size.

Q5. (b) Write the types of data which can be entered in Excel cells.

Ans- The worksheet consists of a grid of columns and rows that form cells. You enter three types of data in cells: labels, values, and formulas. 

• Labels (text) are descriptive pieces of information, such as names, months, or other identifying statistics, and they usually include alphabetic characters.
• Values (numbers) are generally raw numbers or dates. Formulas are instructions for Excel to perform calculations.

Open – Source Software

Open-source software is computer software that is released under a license in which the copyright holder grants users the rights to use, study, change, and distribute the software and its source code to anyone and for any purpose. Open- source software may be developed in a collaborative public manner. 

Freedom of OSS

It means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. Thus, “free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. With these freedoms, the users (both individually and collectively) control the program. 

Different types of OSS

The types of OSS (Open Source Software) are – (i) Mozilla’s Firefox web browser,(ii) Thunderbird email client, (iii) PHP scripting language,(iv) Python programming language.(v) Apache HTTP web server. 

Importance of OSS

Open-source software (OSS) dictates that the source code of an open-source project is publicly accessible, and may be redistributed and modified by a community of developers. Open source projects embrace strong values of community, collaboration, and transparency, for the mutual benefit of the platform and its users.
